| A little of both. Pymel is an open-source project that's aimed at making scripting/programming a little easier in a major 3d graphics application (Maya). We use it at work - and my boss is actually really cool about letting us work on something that we're basically giving away for free - but, at this point, a fair amount of the work we're doing on the project isn't directly benefiting our company. There are some less direct benefits... but there's also always a lot of more directly beneficial stuff to do, so we try to work on it outside of work as much as possible... | |

Getting something done counts! It can be a challenge to figure out how big a goal to set for a given amount of time. When I make myself a to-do list for a single day, I try to remember to ask myself how long I think each item will take, add a fudge factor, and compare the total time needed with the time I have. Sometimes I realize that I need to either shorten the list or push out the deadline. -) If you feel like saying, I'd be curious to know if the pymel work was for a job or a personal project. |

Of the goals, I only succeeded in getting my pymel work done... and that only because I stayed up late to do so. So... not a very good day. On the plus side (and I'm trying to find those), I did at least get SOMEthing done. Which is, sad to admit, a lot better than a many of my past weekends... |
