ChooseWisely commits to:
I commit to spending 90 minutes daily on musical activity, increasing by 15 minutes each week until reaching 2 hours.
Valid exceptions: If work hours cut into sleep or I am sick, the commitment is frozen. On major university deadlines, the minimum commitment is reduced to 15 minutes. Accountability: Logged daily, reviewed weekly. Adjustments may be made as needed for sustainability and optimization.

This is indeed what was missing from my life, and establishing this system has been a great joy, and lessened the burdens of academic life in such a way as to make it pretty damn bearable. However, we were running on emergency mode for a little too long for my liking. Even though illness and deadlines and such were a serious issue, and included in the rules, I feel that perhaps I should reduce the commitment time, as to make it not such an enormous chunk, which looms so forebodingly on the calendar when academic life has it's temper tantrum, demanding every ounce of your time, each professor acting as if his or her course is the only thing going on in your life. We will have to think on this very seriously for the next time around. |
