I'll keep this brief because I have other prirorities. In truth, I've lapsed a number of times in recent weeks, but I can't afford to pay the penalty. This does leave me worried about taking the power out of this method by breaking its meaningfulness, but I don't have much choice.

The first instance was in the scramble to make the homework and assignments deadline for the recent training, and I was going to let myself off the hook for this because it was both a milestone challenge and a milestone success. I've since lapsed at home a number of times, including takeaway over the last three days or so.

I am trying to achieve a lot at the moment, including improvements across the board in how I manage everything I have to do and want to achieve. I am seeing slow but meaningful progress whilst, at the same time, it feels like whenever one thing is getting focused attention, something else has to give. This strikes me as quite natural, and so, in a spirit of constructive self-compassion, I'm going to let myself off the hook entirely for all of these slips, especially since I can't afford not to do so, given my extremely tight finances (which, of course, are one of the challenges I'm working hard to get to grips with at this time). Accordingly I don't have time to give all of this much more thought than what I've already typed here: I now have to go over to my budget and give that some attention, and, after missing a few days of doing so, and the takeaway lapses of the last few days, that's going to be complicated and is already feeling aversive, so I don't want to put it off any longer. Broadly-speaking, things are going well! Well done me!

News Flash: Your Debt is an Emergency!!—Mr. Money Mustache

– Your Debt is not something you “work on”—It is a HUGE, FLAMING EMERGENCY!!!

– correct responses:

i)

“AAAAAUUUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

THERE IS A CLOUD OF KILLER BEES COVERING EVERY SQUARE INCH OF MY BODY AND STINGING ME CONSTANTLY!!!!

I NEED TO STOP IT BEFORE I AM KILLED!!!”

ii)

"SHIT!!!

I just totally blew it and spent more money than I earned!

I need to fix this immediately, so obviously all spending beyond food, and getting to and from work in the cheapest way possible, is now suspended.

No, I don’t need a “budget” to pay back my debt, and I certainly don’t need two more credit cards.

I simply need to do zero extra spending until my debt is corrected."
